Nasi Kuning (Yellow Rice)

Nasi Kuning, or Yellow Rice, is a vibrant Indonesian dish where rice is cooked with coconut milk and turmeric, giving it a golden hue. Often served with a variety of side dishes like fried chicken, eggs, and sambal, Nasi Kuning is a symbol of festivity and celebration in Indonesian cuisine. Its fragrant and rich flavour makes it a beloved and traditional dish, perfect for special occasions.


Ingredients
  • 1/2 kg rice
  • 750 coconut milk or almond milk
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 stalk lemon grass
  • 5 kaffir lime leaves
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil

Steps
  1. Rinse rice thoroughly, strained
  2. Preheat pot or rice cooker, add oil and stir lemongrass, kafir lime leaves, and turmeric until fragrant.
  3. Add rice and stir around 2 minutes.
  4. Add coconut or almond milk.
  5. Put the lid of the pot or rice cooker and continue cooking until rice are cooked.
