Nasi Kuning (Yellow Rice)

Nasi Kuning, or Yellow Rice, is a vibrant Indonesian dish where rice is cooked with coconut milk and turmeric, giving it a golden hue. Often served with a variety of side dishes like fried chicken, eggs, and sambal, Nasi Kuning is a symbol of festivity and celebration in Indonesian cuisine. Its fragrant and rich flavour makes it a beloved and traditional dish, perfect for special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1/2 kg rice
- 750 coconut milk or almond milk
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 stalk lemon grass
- 5 kaffir lime leaves
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
Steps
- Rinse rice thoroughly, strained
- Preheat pot or rice cooker, add oil and stir lemongrass, kafir lime leaves, and turmeric until fragrant.
- Add rice and stir around 2 minutes.
- Add coconut or almond milk.
- Put the lid of the pot or rice cooker and continue cooking until rice are cooked.
