Pad Krapow (Stir Fried Basil with Chicken)

Pad Krapow, a popular Thai dish, features stir-fried minced meat (usually pork or chicken) with Thai basil, garlic, and chilli. The aromatic blend of flavours is enhanced by a savoury sauce, creating a spicy and satisfying meal. Served over rice and topped with a fried egg, Pad Krapow exemplifies Thai cuisine's bold and delicious tastes.


Ingredients
  • 250 gr minced chicken (alternative: pork or beef)
  • 1 cup of holly basil or Thai basil
  • 5 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • 5 Thai or birds-eye chilies
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup of green bean (cut 1 or 2 cm) (steam or boil for around 5 minutes)
  • 2 tbsp of vegetable oil (for stir fry)

Steps
  1. Pre-heat oil on a wok or pan
  2. Add garlic and chillies, and stir fry until fragrant.
  3. Add minced chicken, and stir fry until cooked, around 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add green beans, and keep stir-frying for a minute.
  5. Add oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar, and keep stir-frying for around half a minute.
  6. Turn off the heat, add Thai basil, and stir-fry for around 10 seconds.
  7. Serve with rice and a fried egg.

Note:

  • Don't cook too long once Thai basil added into the pan or wok, it may lose the taste of authentic Thai Basil.
